General Security Protects Supporters of the Damascus Authority, Leaving Kurdish Families Exposed to Attacks and Arson Targeting Their Vehicles

Syria – Raqqa – Tell Abyad | October 26, 2026

The city of Tell Abyad, in the Raqqa countryside, witnessed violent attacks on Monday targeting displaced Kurdish families who attempted to return to their homes and reclaim their properties seized by supporters of the terrorist Damascus authority, following years of forced displacement.

The attacks took place under the watch of General Security personnel affiliated with the Jolani authority, led by Ahmed al-Sharaa, who failed to intervene to stop the assaults or protect the Kurdish families. Meanwhile, supporters of the Damascus authority attacked returning residents and prevented them from reaching their homes and properties.

Kurdish Families Besieged Inside the District Directorate

Videos circulated today showed returning Kurdish families coming under direct attack while inside the district directorate, where they were pursuing legal procedures to prove ownership of their homes and land, of which they had been deprived as a result of forced displacement.

These families had traveled to the city based on previous promises they had received from the governor of Raqqa, who had pledged to facilitate their return to their homes and guarantee their protection. However, residents were met with attacks and threats targeting them as they attempted to reclaim their rights and property.

Heavy Gunfire, Threats, and the Burning of Around 20 Cars and Vehicles

According to field reports and documented footage, the Kurdish families were besieged inside the district directorate building as heavy gunfire rang out in the surrounding area. This was accompanied by a wave of threats and intimidation aimed at terrorizing residents and preventing them from returning and settling in the city.

The attacks did not stop at besieging and threatening the families. They also extended to the destruction and burning of around 20 cars and vehicles belonging to returning Kurdish residents, before they could reach their neighborhoods and homes.

Attacks Take Place Under the Watch of General Security Forces Affiliated with the Jolani Authority

What took place in Tell Abyad represents a serious assault on displaced Kurdish families attempting to return to their homes and reclaim their property, amid clear accusations that General Security forces affiliated with the Jolani authority, led by Ahmed al-Sharaa, failed to protect civilians and left them exposed to attacks without intervening to stop them.

Instead of protecting Kurdish families and ensuring their right to return safely to their homes, the attacks unfolded before the eyes of General Security personnel, while residents were assaulted, their vehicles were burned, and they were threatened in an effort to prevent them from settling in their own city.

Observers also view these attacks as evidence of the continued forced displacement of components and communities across Syrian society, alongside the seizure of their homes, land, and property under the Damascus authority, led by Ahmed al-Sharaa, the former leader of Jabhat al-Nusra, which is accused of providing cover for these practices and failing to protect those affected by them.
